Like research, climbing is about fighting the soul-less nature. A mountain peak or a proof take no pity on our attempts --- they are as hard to reach as they have been since time immemorial. When we succeed to reach the top, our flesh and soul are the mark of our superiority, for we can feel a joy that nature does not share. But when we fail, our flesh and soul are our sorrow.
Rest in peace, Avner. Researchers and climbers have enjoyed your company.
